LEADING THE WAY FOR WELSH ESPORTS
SETTING THE STANDARD IN WALES
How Mary Immaculate High School secured £130,000 to build a facility designed by students, for students.
A STUDENT-LED SPACE
THE MISSION
“We didn’t just build this for them; we built it with them.”
The brief was clear: create a space that students would take pride in. Working closely with the lead teacher, Adam, Yoyotech took a unique approach to the design process—we brought the students into the boardroom.
From the layout to the aesthetics, the students were involved at every step. They didn’t just want a classroom; they wanted an identity. The result? A space that features custom neon signage representing their school teams, giving the room a professional “clubhouse” feel that drives ownership and respect for the equipment.
THE BUILD
MAXIMISING THE SPACE
Supported by a £130,000 investment from Cardiff Council, we maximised every inch of the available footprint through creative problem-solving.
Cupboards to Cockpits: We took existing storage cupboards that were dead space and transformed them into immersive Racing Simulators.
Accessibility First: We installed height-adjustable desks throughout, ensuring the facility is inclusive and comfortable for students of all ages and physical abilities.
The Centrepiece: The room is anchored by a bespoke feature desk, a custom-designed focal point that gives the room its “wow” factor and serves as the teacher’s command centre.
LEADING THE WAY IN WALES
THE IMPACT
Mary Immaculate has claimed the title of the first secondary school in Wales to install a facility of this calibre. This isn’t just a win for the school; it’s a blueprint for the region.
By securing Local Authority funding, the school has demonstrated that esports is a viable, fundable avenue for student development. The facility now serves as a hub for attendance, behaviour improvement, and digital literacy, proving that with the right partner, any space can be transformed into a portal for the future.
Yoyotech worked closely with us to refine and elevate our vision, and throughout the process, we developed a strong and collaborative working relationship. The project was delivered with impressive speed and efficiency, and the final result speaks for itself: a professional, sector-leading Esports suite that exceeds our expectations.
