THE UKS NEXT-GEN DIGITAL SKILLS HUB

BULDING AN ESPORTS CAMPUS

A 150-seat broadcast arena, 27 high-performance stations, and a complete curriculum ecosystem. How Wiltshire College worked with Yoyotech and AOC to stop the “brain drain” and build a multi-purpose digital skills hub that demands attention.

RETAINING LOCAL TALENT

THE MISSION

“We needed to retain technology talent within the county. Otherwise, they end up going elsewhere.”

Wiltshire County Council identified a critical gap: local students were leaving the region to find high-level digital opportunities. They needed a reason to stay. The brief was ambitious—transform an existing space into a digital powerhouse that could deliver the BTEC Esports curriculum while serving as a beacon for the entire community.

The challenge? Versatility. The space couldn’t just be a computer lab; it had to function as a lecture hall, a conference centre, a theatre, and a pro-level esports arena. It needed to be everything, all at once.

THE BUILD

5 SPACES, ONE HUB

Spanning five distinct zones—including two Game Dev suites, a Broadcast studio, an Esports arena, and the Theatre itself—this facility is built for every stage of production.

The crown jewel is the 150-seater auditorium. We installed a cinema-grade £80k LED wall that acts as the visual heartbeat of the room. But power is nothing without control.

  • Total Flexibility: We designed custom esports desks on wheels, allowing the 5 vs 5 tournament stage to be rolled away in minutes, returning the space to a traditional theatre or conference venue.

  • Broadcast Ready: Integrated with 4 PTZ (Pan-Tilt-Zoom) cameras and a dedicated production gallery, the arena captures every angle, professionalizing the student experience.

  • Industry Standard: Powered by AOC monitors and high-spec Yoyotech custom PCs, students are learning on the same rig professionals use to compete.

WHAT WE DELIVERED

Multi-Use Venue for the Future

This facility shatters the myth that esports spaces are single-use. By day, it’s a high-tech classroom teaching Unreal Engine and Game Development. By night, it’s a commercial asset.

Multifunctional Revenue

The "roll-away" design means the college can hire out the auditorium for corporate conferencing, theatre productions, or external esports tournaments without complex breakdowns.

5 Immersive Learning Spaces

The multi-faceted integration of shout-casting rooms and production galleries means students aren't just players; they are broadcasters, engineers, and event managers - it's everything that wraps around the esports industry.

I'd absolutely recommend Yoyotech and AOC as partners. They really relieved a lot of that pressure... they know what the client needs and they're really receptive to everything we needed.
